Celebrate family-friendly events, farm tours, and unique local experiences
In November, Miami-Dade County warmly welcomes residents and visitors to Farmers Month, an annual celebration that highlights the area's diverse agricultural heritage. Less than an hour south of bustling Miami, South Dade's scenic countryside is home to an array of local farms, groves, and family-owned agricultural businesses. Sponsored by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, this month-long event showcases South Dade's contributions to Miami's economy, offering everything from fresh local produce to immersive farm experiences that honor the backbone of Miami's rural industry.
Stretching from Pinecrest to the Everglades, South Dade is more than a farming hub; it's a place where visitors can connect with Miami's agricultural legacy. Landmarks like the renowned Robert Is Here fruit stand serves up tropical milkshakes from unique fruits like dragon fruit and mamey. At Schnebly Redland's Winery & Brewery, visitors can sample wines crafted from local fruits such as guava, mango, and carambola. For a family-friendly outing, Knaus Berry Farm offers U-pick strawberries and freshly baked goods, attracting locals and tourists alike. These and other locations across South Dade embody a deep farming tradition that continues to enrich the community.

Supporting Miami’s agricultural community and local economy
Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, who founded Miami-Dade’s Farmers Month, considers the celebration a vital way to honor the county’s agricultural community and boost the local economy. Last year’s Farmers Month events underscored the resilience and contributions of South Dade’s farmers, and this year’s lineup continues to recognize their role. With over 50 special offers available, residents and tourists can enjoy farm tours, fresh markets, vineyard tastings, and other activities that showcase the community’s agricultural heritage.
Farmers Month will kick off in partnership with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB). Together, they aim to make this celebration an annual tradition, bringing attention to Miami-Dade’s agriculture and promoting tourism in the area. This event strengthens community ties while supporting local farms and inviting everyone to appreciate the agricultural industry’s vital role in Miami’s economy and culture.
