Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez breaks ground on the first-ever Tax Collector’s Office in Miami Beach: Bringing essential services closer to home

A historic step toward government access, convenience, and community-centered service

For years, Miami Beach residents have crossed the causeway for everything from driver license renewals to property tax payments. That long-standing inconvenience is finally coming to an end. Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez has broken ground on the first full-service Miami-Dade Tax Collector’s Office ever located east of Biscayne Bay, at 100 16th Street in Miami Beach. The new office is a Miami-Dade Tax Collector project, made possible in partnership with the City of Miami Beach and local leaders.

A new era of access for Miami Beach residents

The new 4,000-square-foot facility will house 14 customer service windows and offer every major service provided by the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector: driver licenses, ID cards, motor vehicle registrations, property tax payments, and business tax receipts. For the first time, Miami Beach residents will be able to complete these essential tasks without leaving their neighborhood, helping seniors, small business owners, families, and commuters who have long dealt with traffic, parking, and time constraints.

“Miami Beach residents deserve the same convenience and efficiency available in every other part of the county,” Fernandez shared during the ceremony. He thanked Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, Commissioner Alex Fernandez, State Representative Fabián Basabe, and the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce for partnering with his office to bring this project to life. Construction is being led by John Bell Construction, with President and CEO Oscar Morejon overseeing the build of a modern, customer-friendly space.

Part of a bigger vision to modernize countywide services

The Miami Beach office, scheduled for completion in spring 2026, is one part of Fernandez’s broader countywide strategy to expand access through new Tax Collector offices, mobile units, and community-centered service models. Local leaders, including Commissioner David Suarez, County Commissioner Micky Steinberg, Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia, and community partners joined the groundbreaking, underscoring the importance of the Tax Collector’s effort to bring services closer to residents.

By placing government services where people live and work, the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office is responding directly to the needs of a growing, diverse county, from small businesses in South Dade to families in Little Havana and beyond.

As Miami-Dade continues to grow and change, projects like this show how strong partnerships between local governments and the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector can deliver real, everyday benefits for residents.
