MIA to the Core: How DJ Coheeba is turning the city’s rhythm into a movement

From Wynwood block parties to Little Havana nights, Miami-born DJ Coheeba is redefining what it means to move a crowd — and a community

Miami isn’t just a city — it’s a rhythm. Every neighborhood, from the murals of Wynwood to the cafés of Little Havana, pulses with a unique sound that reflects its distinct character and the people who inhabit it. For local DJ and creative visionary Daniel Canjura, aka DJ Coheeba of Real Dade Studios, rhythm is more than inspiration — it’s identity. Through his brand, MIA to the Core, he channels the soul of Miami into every set, connecting cultures and generations through sound, storytelling, and pure energy.

The sound of the 305

Ask DJ Coheeba to describe his sound, and he’ll tell you it’s “Latin percussion, hip-hop energy, and Caribbean warmth — all wrapped in that Miami bass attitude.” Raised on a mix of salsa at family cookouts, reggae at backyard parties, and freestyle classics on the radio, his sets mirror the city’s melting pot of influences.

One of his most unforgettable moments behind the decks happened after Art Basel — a block party in Wynwood where artists, tourists, and locals sang together word-for-word to a classic freestyle track. “That’s Miami,” he says. “Generations vibing to the same record. You can’t plan that — it just happens here.”

And for DJ Coheeba, that multigenerational connection runs deep. “It’s awesome — my grandfather was also an inspiration,” he shares. “He owned the original Chantilly Bakery and Kendall Bakery by the zoo. He built something that brought people together — kind of like what I try to do now, just through music.”

More than music — It’s community

After the pandemic changed live events, DJ Coheeba turned to storytelling and visuals to keep the music alive. That evolution gave birth to MIA to the Core and later Real Dade Studios, creative spaces dedicated to showcasing Miami culture through interviews, live sessions, and collaborations.

“We have too much talent here to compete,” he says. “We’re stronger when we uplift each other. That’s what makes Miami different — the community comes first.”

Today, he continues to champion local artists and producers, blending tradition with innovation while keeping the spotlight firmly on Miami’s creative heart. From downtown rooftops to Calle Ocho block parties, DJ Coheeba isn’t just spinning records — he’s spinning stories of pride, culture, and connection.

Because in Miami, every beat tells a story, and every story deserves to be heard.
