A helping hand for Miami families by Commissioner Manolo Reyes

Commissioner Reyes shared that he understands the excitement children experience when they receive a new backpack and fresh supplies at the start of the school year. However, he is also aware of the financial strain many families face, particularly with the rising cost of living.

Affording all the required school supplies can be a challenge. That's why he is committed to working with community partners every year. Together, they’ll ensure Miami's students have the tools they need to thrive in the new academic year.

The Commissioner's initiative has grown steadily over the years, thanks in part to the generosity of numerous community partners. Their contributions and donations have played a vital role in providing much-needed relief to Miami's neediest families. This collaborative effort highlights the power of community spirit in ensuring all children have an equal opportunity to succeed in school.

"I am not only a former teacher, but I am also a father and grandfather who understands how excited children are to start the school year with a new backpack and supplies. I also understand the difficulties that many families face today with the high cost of living and being able to purchase all the supplies required to have a successful school year. That is why, every year, I work with several community partners to guarantee that the children in our City receive a backpack with the supplies needed to start the new school year," said Commissioner Reyes.

Importance of school supplies

Equipping students with the proper school supplies is essential for a positive and productive learning experience. Studies have shown a strong correlation between having necessary supplies and academic achievement. A well-stocked backpack allows students to become organized, promotes a sense of preparedness, and helps them participate actively in class activities.

Beyond the practical benefits, receiving a backpack with school supplies can help boost students' morale. It demonstrates the community's investment in their education and future success. This act of kindness can spark a sense of belonging and motivate students to reach their full potential.

Distribution events planned throughout Miami

The Commissioner's office has planned several distribution events across Miami this summer. These events will allow families to pick up backpacks filled with essential school supplies for their children.
