June is National Men’s Health Month, and Care Resource is taking on the opportunity to spread awareness. Now is a perfect time to get more serious about one’s health and seek information about the most common preventable conditions that affect men. Some of these include cancer, heart disease, and depression.
With all that the world has been through this year, it can be hard to focus on all the other factors that make someone healthy. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on average, men in the United States die five years earlier than women. They also die at higher rates from three causes: heart disease, cancer, and injuries.
For all these reasons, it is important to remind all the important men in one’s life to take care of themselves. Men should feel open about making medical visits and be encouraged to keep up with their healthy habits. This month men should take the time to make healthy food choices, stay active, take steps to quit smoking, schedule medical check-ups, and take care of their behavioral health.
As Gloria Cabral, RD, LDN Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist, “Men should use this month to take stock of their health now and think about where they want to be.”
To raise awareness for Men's Health, be sure to take part in WEAR BLUE DAY on Friday, June 18 by wearing blue clothing. Show your support by making a post on social media and positively encourage men to pay special attention to their health this month.
Care Resource is committed to the cause and will be offering new patients without insurance a medical voucher to receive a no-cost basic exam and lab tests during the month. To make an appointment with a Care Resource clinic, call 305-576-1234 extension #470 (English) or #471 (Spanish).
