The Caring Place will host a county-wide Valentine’s outreach on February 27, reminding men, women, and children experiencing homelessness that they are seen, valued, and loved
In Miami-Dade County and across South Florida, homelessness remains a pressing issue tied to housing affordability, economic stability, and community awareness. While public policy and regional governance continue to address long-term solutions, local nonprofits often step in to meet immediate needs. This Valentine’s season, The Caring Place at Miami Rescue Mission | Broward Outreach Centers is hosting its annual “Hearts of Hope” dinner, offering not just meals—but dignity, encouragement, and connection—to individuals experiencing homelessness.

A Valentine’s outreach focused on dignity and care
The Hearts of Hope event will take place on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at both its Miami and Broward campuses. The initiative is designed to transform what can be a difficult holiday into a moment of community support.
Guests will receive a freshly prepared meal, Valentine’s Day cards created by volunteers, brand-new clothing items, hygiene essentials, and complimentary haircuts. Dining rooms will be decorated with tablecloths and handmade centerpieces, creating a welcoming environment that reinforces a simple but powerful message: no one is forgotten.
Faith leaders will also share words of encouragement, and sponsors—including local business supporters—have helped make the event possible. The outreach reflects a broader regional trend in which nonprofit organizations collaborate with volunteers and private partners to address immediate needs while advocating for long-term change.
Addressing homelessness beyond the holiday
Since 1922, the organization has served men, women, and children across South Florida with food, shelter, education, job training, health services, and long-term regeneration programs. On any given day, nearly 1,000 individuals receive assistance.
Antonio “Tony” Villasuso, President of The Caring Place, emphasized the organization’s mission to ensure that every individual who seeks help feels respected and supported. Beyond a single meal, the Valentine’s outreach underscores the importance of compassion as part of a broader community response to homelessness in Miami-Dade County.
Events like Hearts of Hope highlight the role community awareness plays in strengthening public education around homelessness and encouraging civic engagement across South Florida.
