Honoring heritage, craftsmanship, and cultural pride on June 27, 2025 with the redesignation of Guayabera Day
Calle Ocho News is proud to announce the return of one of Miami’s most beloved cultural tributes — the Guayabera Day Designation Celebration sponsored by top sponsor Cubavera, taking place on June 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM at The Havana Collection, Calle Ocho’s iconic home for Guayaberas. This event will not only honor the timeless elegance of the Guayabera shirt but will also commemorate its official redesignation as “Guayabera Day” on July 1st — thanks to Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, who has championed its cultural importance.

A tribute to tradition and community on Calle Ocho
The Havana Collection has long been recognized as the go-to destination in Miami for authentic Guayaberas, offering craftsmanship deeply rooted in Cuban tradition. On June 27, the store will transform into the epicenter of cultural pride, complete with free Cuban cuisine, refreshing beverages, and live entertainment that celebrates the rich rhythms of Hispanic heritage.
The highlight of Guayabera Day will be the official designation ceremony, taking place at 6:00 PM. This moment will formally reaffirm July 1st as Guayabera Day in Miami-Dade County. The ceremony is expected to draw a diverse crowd of community leaders, cultural advocates, and residents who share a deep appreciation for the garment’s historical and stylistic legacy.
Commissioner Higgins will lead the official designation ceremonies sponsored by Cubavera, the GMCVB, Commissioner Eileen Higgins, and Care Resource, reinforcing the Guayabera as more than a fashion statement, but rather a legacy piece that connects generations. “Guayabera Day is more than a celebration of style, and it’s a tribute to culture, craftsmanship, and the timeless elegance of tradition,” she said. The event aims to highlight the importance of keeping this iconic garment woven into the fabric of Miami’s cultural identity. This event is brought to you by Cubavera, the GMCVB, Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Care Resource, the Havana Collection, Ron Barcelo, MIA, PortMiami, and special appearances by the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez, our Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia, and the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser, Tomas Regalado.

Honoring the legacy of George Feldenkreis and the Cubavera brand
This year’s celebration will also pay special tribute to George Feldenkreis, a pioneer who brought the Guayabera into North America’s mainstream fashion landscape. Feldenkreis, who passed away on February 20, 2025, founded Supreme International in 1967 and later established the Cubavera brand under Perry Ellis International in 2000. With his son, Oscar Feldenkreis, at the helm, Cubavera redefined the Guayabera for the modern world, blending tradition with contemporary design.
Cubavera’s global influence reflects the enduring charm and versatility of the Guayabera, and this celebration stands as a fitting homage to both the garment and the men who elevated it.
