FPL sparks excitement for STEM education through electrifying EV racing, fostering innovation among high school students
In the sunny state of Florida, students are ditching textbooks for tools, diving headfirst into the world of electric vehicle (EV) racing, and igniting their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The powerhouse Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has joined forces with Electrathon America, powering high school students to design, construct, and race their very own electric vehicles. Through hands-on learning, young minds are zooming toward a greener, brighter future.
FPL supercharges STEM dreams with Electrathon America
On a scorching Saturday morning by Cocoa Beach, high school students gear up to take part in a dynamic competition fusing the exhilaration of motorsports with the wonder of STEM education.
Months of preparation culminate as nine teams, hailing from every corner of Florida, unleash their ingeniously crafted electric racecars on the track. The mission? To endure the longest journey within a single hour—a test of teamwork, innovation, and determination. More than a race, this is an immersive educational experience that’s turbocharging student enthusiasm for learning.
FPL’s electrathon initiative accelerates STEM fervor
FAU High School’s journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of FPL's Electrathon program. Originally receiving an EV car kit from FPL during the Miami Formula E race, FAU High School has ingeniously repurposed the vehicle for thrilling Electrathon competitions.
Fueled by FPL's EV charging solutions, this initiative demolishes barriers to STEM careers by offering resources, training, and materials. FPL isn’t just propelling sustainable energy solutions—they’re nurturing the STEM trailblazers of the future.
