Driver license services resume for Venezuelan Nationals in Miami-Dade after TPS extension

Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez reassures community members that help is available for those with valid TPS documentation

A significant federal court decision this week has brought relief to thousands of Venezuelan nationals living in Miami-Dade County. The ruling extends Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and in response, the State of Florida has resumed the processing of driver licenses and state ID cards for eligible individuals. Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez has announced that his office is ready to assist residents in navigating the reinstated services.

Fernandez emphasized that each case will be handled individually, but encouraged those with valid TPS documentation to visit their nearest office for support.

Guidance and support for the Venezuelan community

“This week’s court decision is an important update for many Venezuelan residents in our community who have followed the legal process to maintain their immigration status,” said Fernandez. “Every case is different, but our message is simple: if your documents are in order, come to our office. We’ll guide you through the process and help you get the necessary services.”

Residents are urged to visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) websites to confirm their eligibility and ensure they have the proper TPS documentation before visiting a Tax Collector's office.
