Yavi Reyes is all set to redefine storytelling in season three of Deciphering the Image
Deciphering the Image isn’t just a docu-series. It’s an experience. Now back for its most intimate, cinematic season yet, this award-winning show from Cuban American director and Media Poets co-founder Yavi Reyes is a masterclass in emotional storytelling through visuals. Launching July 25, Season 3 is a bold, unscripted return that dares to ask: what does an image say after the lights and camera turn off?
For founders, creatives, and tastemakers whose image is their currency, this series is your road map.

A roller coaster of visuals and emotions
If you’ve followed Deciphering the Image from the start, you probably remember that Season One was mainly a peek inside Yavi’s creative process. Season two opened the doors a little wider, introducing more conversation with the people on set. But Season Three? Get ready.
Yavi describes it as both a visual and emotional roller coaster. She and her team, including Emmy-winning cinematographer Hugo Quizhpi, are demystifying the process and showing that you don’t need a big budget or fancy backdrops to create something unforgettable.
One standout moment? A group shot that lit up Times Square for a nonprofit campaign championing survivors of domestic violence.
“The magic is all in the intention. The biggest shift this season is that it’s not about looking pretty anymore,” she shared. “It’s about what the image says after the moment is over, and how it keeps speaking to people.” – Yavi Reyes
Owning the frame
At its core, Season 3 is about one word: ownership. Not a business. Not in a wardrobe. But of presence.
Yavi created this season to empower every person who steps in front of the lens to truly own the frame, unapologetically. She wants people to be themselves, completely, with all their flaws and raw emotions.
One thing she’s especially proud of is how organically the stories came together. There was no scripted casting process or pre-planned lineup. All the narratives unfolded naturally.
“I never want to fix anyone; I just want to draw out their essence and let it take shape.” – Yavi Reyes
The result: deeply personal, unscripted stories that explore identity and purpose with raw honesty. Several of Yavi’s past clients have turned their episodes into cover stories, music video concepts, and full brand relaunches, proof that one meaningful frame can change everything.
The intermingling of heritage and creativity
A considerable part of what makes Deciphering the Image unique is Yavi herself. Born in Cuba and raised in Kansas City, she grew up with two distinct cultures that shaped her worldview and work.
Her Cuban side adds colors and fearless creativity. Her American upbringing instilled in her a sense of independence and fueled her drive. It is reflected in everything she directs: bold color palettes, European styling, and a pulse of storytelling that never tries too hard but always lands.
“When I think about why I create, it always comes back to that mix of cultures, being Cuban American has taught me how to be bold and to keep pushing forward, regardless of the circumstances.” – Yavi Reyes
As the co-founder of Media Poets, Yavi has always believed that storytelling is the backbone of any project, particularly when it comes to photo shoots or videos. The team thinks of themselves as poets because they aim to create work that sticks in people’s minds.
“Every image should feel alive,” she said. “It should still be saying something years from now.”
A message to young dreamers
Yavi hopes the new season sparks something meaningful, especially for young people who are still shaping their identity and finding their place in creative spaces.
She understands the weight of self-doubt and the question of belonging all too well.
“Whether you want to reinvent yourself or go after a big dream, the most important thing is to start moving; you don’t have to have every tool or every resource. Don’t wait for someone to hand you permission. Just be bold enough to show up.” – Yavi Reyes
