Fernandez takes on ambassador role with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness, inspire hope, and support families battling breast cancer
Miami is a city where community comes first, and when one of our neighbors takes a stand for a cause that touches so many lives, it deserves recognition. This October, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez is stepping into a new role—beyond public service—as an ambassador for the American Cancer Society’s 2025 Men Wear Pink campaign. His mission: to shine a light on the fight against breast cancer and rally the community around early detection, patient support, and lifesaving research.

Standing together for awareness and hope
Breast cancer remains one of the most common and devastating diseases affecting families across the country, and Miami is no exception. For Fernandez, the decision to join this national initiative was deeply personal and community-driven.
“Too many families have been touched by breast cancer,” he shared. “By joining this campaign, I want to help bring greater attention to the importance of early detection, expand support for families, and strengthen the research that saves lives. We all know someone who has faced this disease, and it is by standing together as a community that we can bring hope, raise awareness, and make a lasting difference.”
Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Dariel Fernandez will join other ambassadors nationwide in raising funds, increasing awareness, and encouraging residents to participate in outreach efforts. From wearing pink to hosting fundraising events, the campaign reminds Miami-Dade residents that even small acts can have a big impact.

How the community can get involved
The Men Wear Pink campaign is about more than a color—it’s about action. Residents across Greater Miami are invited to take part in several ways:
- Wear pink throughout October to spark conversations and show solidarity with those impacted by breast cancer.
- Donate or fundraise by scanning the campaign QR code or connecting directly with Fernandez’s local efforts to support the American Cancer Society.
- Encourage loved ones to get screened. Early detection can save lives, and spreading that message is one of the most powerful forms of advocacy.
- Share the message on social media. Each post extends the reach of the campaign and helps educate more people about prevention, support services, and research.
The Office of the Tax Collector is also reminding residents that Florida offers a specialty license plate dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. By choosing the “End breast cancer” license plate, drivers can proudly display their support while helping spread awareness across the state. Even more importantly, proceeds from every plate directly fund breast cancer research, education, and awareness programs right here in Florida.
To learn how to purchase your plate, visit your local Tax Collector’s Office or go online at Florida Breast Cancer Foundation.
Along with wearing pink and sharing the message during October, displaying this plate is another simple yet powerful way to stand with Miami-Dade families impacted by breast cancer and support the lifesaving work that gives hope to so many.
Miami has always thrived on unity—neighbors lifting neighbors, communities rallying together. With leaders like Dariel Fernandez at the forefront, the message is clear: breast cancer affects us all, and together, we can make a difference.
Miami’s strength lies in its people and their willingness to support one another in times of need. By standing with Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez and the Men Wear Pink campaign, residents have the chance to spread awareness, honor survivors, and support the research that gives families hope.
