About Tri-Rail's Rail Fun Day activities
Tri-Rail's Rail Fun Day extravaganza at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Station unfolded like a carnival of delights, drawing in families and train enthusiasts from across South Florida. The platform buzzed with excitement as attendees eagerly explored the array of activities on offer. From face painting to cookie decorating and food trucks to arts and crafts, the event was a whirlwind of entertainment for all ages. Partnerships with local attractions and organizations added flair, with engaging activities from Flamingo Gardens to the Florida Panthers, captivating visitors throughout the day.
The success of Rail Fun Day was further complemented by the Lake Worth Beach Street Painting Festival, a two-day extravaganza that brought thousands of people together to celebrate art and culture. As a longtime supporter of the festival, SFRTA once again played a pivotal role in facilitating transportation to and from the event, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and collaboration.
Talented kids from SoFlo took the stage
The highlight of Rail Fun Day was undoubtedly the "South Florida's Kids Got Talent" singing contest, showcasing the remarkable vocal abilities of young talents from the region. Amid cheers and applause, ten-year-old Samantha Schmerling stepped into the spotlight and delivered a mesmerizing performance of "Never Enough" from "The Greatest Showman." Her rendition struck a chord with the audience and judges alike, earning her the coveted title and a bundle of prizes. Not to be outdone, first runner-up Lila Fuchs of Boca Raton also wowed the crowd with her talent, securing a cash reward and leaving a lasting impression with her stellar performance.
Beyond the festivities, the weekend brought another reason for celebration as Tri-Rail set new ridership records. Saturday saw an impressive 10,129 passengers hopping aboard the trains, marking the first time in history that Tri-Rail reached the 10,000 mark on a Saturday. Sunday followed suit with 7,449 passengers, setting a new record for the highest Sunday ridership. This surge in ridership underscores the growing popularity and importance of Tri-Rail as a vital mode of transportation for South Floridians, not just for commuting but also for accessing community events and attractions.
Tri-Rail's Rail Fun Day isn't just about fun and games—it's also an opportunity to highlight the benefits of the commuter rail system to South Florida families. Since its inception in 2007, the event has become a beloved tradition, offering a free day of entertainment and showcasing the convenience of riding Tri-Rail for work, school, and leisure activities. With each passing year, Rail Fun Day continues to grow, attracting more attendees and spreading the message of accessible, sustainable transportation.
