May is National Mental Health Awareness Month

Sine 1949, the United States has recognized May as Mental Health Awareness Month. This tradition has reached millions of people through the media, local events, and television. Each year millions of Americans must face the reality of living with a mental illness. In fact, one in five Americans is affected by mental health conditions.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, the nonprofit organization Care Resource and the rest of the country are making efforts to raise awareness of mental health in order to fight the common stigmas associated with mental health, as well as educate the public and provide a source of support to people suffering from a mental illness and their families. Stigmas can be toxic to a person's mental health due to the creation of shame, fear, and silence. These negative emotions tend to prevent many sufferers of mental health from seeking the help and treatment that they may need.

If you or a loved one needs support in dealing with mental health, you can make an appointment with Care Resource's team of compassionate, competent, and committed individuals. Each team member is a licensed behavioral health professional and is uniquely poised in understanding how emotional or mental health issues can affect one's life and the lives of those one cares about. Care Resource can provide the tools necessary for improved and efficient daily functioning.

Care Resource is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization and a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with seven locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Care Resource provides comprehensive primary medical and preventive care, including pediatric care, family care, dental care, in-house pharmacy services and behavioral health/substance abuse services to all individuals in South Florida's diverse communities.
