Miami Open player Victoria Azarenka quit the match due to stressful personal life
This past weekend, the Miami Open continued with matches and was quite the eventful tournament, with some of the most talented, skilled professional tennis players going neck to neck.
However, Belarusian player and former world No. 1, Victoria Azarenka, left a match midway in one unfortunate match.
What exactly happened, and why she left
Victoria Azarenka is one of the most well-known and well-respected tennis players in the world. The Belarusian athlete was a world champion in 2012 and 2013 but went on a break from 2016 to 2017 for the birth of her son. Her career slowed down due to her son’s birth and a long-drawn-out custody battle, and break up with her partner in 2018. It’s unsurprising that Azarenka felt the need to step away with the barrage of difficult situations and a particularly stressful few weeks.
Despite the ongoing stress in her personal life, she played a match before and felt like she owed her audience this round too. Unfortunately, it was too much pressure, and she ended up retiring from the game against 16-year-old Czech Linda Fruhvirtova and left midway.
She stated that she needed to take a break and step back till she recovers emotionally and hopes to come back stronger.
More about the Miami Open and upcoming games
