One of Miami’s biggest art festivals commissions local Cuban-American artist to create the Coconut Grove Arts Festival event poster
The Coconut Grove Arts Festival
The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is an annual cultural event that features some of Miami’s greatest up-and-coming talents. This year, they’ve commissioned Cuban-American Artist David Le Batard, or Lebo as he’s known in the art scene, to design their commemorative poster.
As one of the most recognizable and well-known artists in South Florida, Lebo’s work primarily features live painting, sculptures, and stunning murals that are incredibly unique. He uses graphic design and fine art techniques in the best way possible, combining both his niches into something entirely unique to him.
The Florida local, however, is also an international sensation, which is why this decision makes perfect sense and is a well-deserved honor.
Why Lebo is the perfect choice for this job
With an incredibly diverse body of work, Cuban-American artist Lebo has long been involved in individual art projects as well as commissioned work, including aircraft carriers and ship hulls, as well as human subjects on reality TV. Throughout his illustrious career, he’s worked with celebrities, athletes, artists, designers, musicians, corporations--you name it.
Based in Miami, Lebo has been entrusted with this task because of his incredible ability to use multiple mediums and forms, borrowing from Cuban music, line-based abstractions, and an incredible color palette that allows him to tell stories through his work. He looks toward American cartooning, fine art, history, music, and many other areas of interest to create the pieces that he does. In a comment made by Lebo himself, he expressed gratitude for being given this opportunity and was glad that art as diverse as his was being celebrated by the festival.
His distinct artistic choices and style leave us as curious as ever to see the poster, which will be unveiled at the kick-off event in early February.
