How to Enjoy Cuban Cuisine to the Max

Cuban cuisine is one of the most versatile, flavorful cuisines globally. With an incredible array of textures and flavors, it’s got so much to offer that it’s almost impossible to think you’re fully familiar with it. Plus, Miami has some of the best places to eat when it comes to authentic Cuban food, from

That’s why we’re sharing this complete guide to how you can enjoy a full day of Cuban cuisine while you’re in town, and check out some of the best new and old restaurants in Miami while you’re at it:

Start off the day with some poached eggs and Cuban coffee

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they say, and when you have Cuban breakfast, why wouldn’t you want to indulge? Have a heaping helping of avocado toast (this isn’t traditional per se), with a poached egg or some guava butter on toast, and a potent shot of Cuban coffee. It’s the perfect way to fuel yourself for a busy day.

Stop for a fresh Cuban sandwich for a snack

While you can save this for lunch, we recommend having a Cuban sandwich for a midday snack since they’re pretty lightweight, delicious, and will absolutely keep you satiated—ham, cheese, bread—simple but so perfect.

Enjoy a hearty helping of rice and beans for lunchtime

By lunch, you’re probably ready to try more delicious food, and we can’t recommend the classic moros y maduros, or black beans and rice. Flavorful, rich, and very filling, this is the ultimate Cuban meal. Pair it with fresh vegetables, and wash it down with an ice-cold Cuba Libre (rum and coke) for the perfect combination.

Treat yourself to a happy hour mojito and soft serve

By early evening you’re probably tired from walking around and getting work done, so it’s the perfect time to kick it back with a happy hour mojito and/or a soft-serve helping at Azucar Ice Cream Company. Delicious but not overpowering, these drink and dessert options are ideal pre-dinner.

Indulge in some ajiaco or ropa vieja for dinner

Speaking of dinner, we recommend having a nice, thick bowl of ajiaco, a traditional Cuban stew that uses meat, vegetables, and some grains. It’s incredibly filling and typically served on special occasions, but life’s a party, right?

For something equally special, you can also have ropa vieja, which is essentially beef and rice. With an equally interesting history and social origin, every bite you take of this classic Cuban meal should be a reminder of everything you should appreciate.

End the day with your favorite churros or flan

Last but not least, end the day with more classic dessert items. We recommend finishing strong with hot churros or flan if you’re looking for something softer. You can also have rice pudding if you’re in the mood for something light and delicious.
