Miami-Dade County Parks has curated a health and wellness arts program to support residents
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Miami residents need opportunities to maintain their health and wellness. This could be anything from exercising to channeling your creativity through the arts. Whatever your fuel is, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department has you covered.
The Wellness and Arts Outdoor Program takes place at the Raíces Hispanic Cultural Arts Center in Miller Drive Park. Miami-Dade residents of all ages can take part in activities to fuel their happiness.
The program features free classes five days per week. Classes have a maximum capacity of 20 participants per class. On Mondays and Fridays from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., there will be a stretching and meditation class. A drawing and painting class will occur on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be dance classes for fitness, folklore, and corporal expressions. Finally, puppet shows will occur on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
To attend any of the classes, residents must register one week before the class date. Registration takes place via Miami-Dade Parks’ online registration system, Park Link. Residents can also register by visiting Miller Drive Park or calling 305-271-0812.
At the classes, COVID-19 guidelines must be followed. Residents must wear face masks and keep socially distant. They will undergo pre-screenings and temperature checks. Administrators will conduct a verbal questionnaire before the class.
Attendees should bring their own art materials and yoga mats.
The program is held at the Raíces Hispanic Heritage Cultural Arts Center at 5510 SW 94 Court. The center offers children and adults year-round programs to promote health and wellness. The center also preserves cultural traditions in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
One of the programs the center has conducted include camps with training in the arts. Local artists of all media even have the opportunity to take part in a residency program.
