Host of El Gordo y la Flaca, Raul De Molina, stars in emergency preparation video for PETA Latino
Now that hurricane season has begun, PETA Latino is attempting to educate the pet-owner community about how and why they should include their pets in their preparation for natural disasters. To do this, they created a video starring Raul De Molina, the host of El Gordo y la Flaca. Molina is part of a long list of celebrities who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
In the video, Molina attempts to represent the different kinds of natural disasters that are experienced, including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and fires. Molina is blasted with a leaf blower that is meant to represent a hurricane or tornado. He then pretends to feel the shaking one would feel during an earthquake and acts as though he was sprayed with a fire extinguisher.
The idea was to show a person suffering the effects of a natural disaster, which is what animals who are left behind during natural disasters experience.
"Nobody would like to be laid out in the sun to dry," Molina said. "That is why it is important to be prepared to protect your family in case of a natural disaster—including animals."
The video with Molina was PETA Latino’s way of implementing their motto, which partially reads, “animals are not ours to abuse in any way.” PETA wishes to remind everyone to keep their animals indoors during extreme weather conditions.
In addition, during times of evacuations, families should be aware of where they are going in advance and be sure to take animals with them in secure carriers with their ID tags and enough water and food for multiple days.
Most importantly, never leave your animals behind.
PETA, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, is an organization that works to advocate for animal rights around the world, through public education, cruelty investigations, animal rescue, and many other tactics.
