Hotel isolation program has 400 more hotel rooms to help residents

Miami Dade County has added 400 hotel rooms to its hotel isolation program that will house residents who need to stay away from their families for a temporary period for health and safety reasons

Miami Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez recently announced the county’s partnership with the State of Florida to add 400 hotel rooms to the Hotel Isolation Program. The county has already been providing hotel rooms to essential workers, like those in healthcare, and first responders, as well as homeless residents, all of whom needed to isolate for a short period of time. Patients have also been provided with isolation rooms at hotels, as was recommended by the Florida Department of Health and Area Hospitals.  

The program is now being expanded to anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, is waiting for a test result, or who is at risk of exposure in their household. Residents in-need of a hotel room for isolation should call 305-614-1716 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily. Anyone with our without symptoms is welcome to call. 

The expansion of the program comes in response to a recent increase of COVID-19 infections among 18 through 34-year-old residents in the county. 

The recent increase of positive cases puts many multigenerational households at risk of an elder member ending up in the hospital. Multigenerational households are common in Miami Dade County, which is why the county has implemented a help-line for residents to call if they need to be put in a temporary hotel room for isolation.
