The Second Annual United For Care Health Fair

United for Care (U4C) is a community health fair organised to raise attention about the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Care Resource, a Florida-based nonprofit organization, in collaboration with Churches United, announced this event that will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Apostolic Temple (1855 NW 119th St., Miami, FL 33167).

As the Chairman of Churches United for HIV/AIDS Prevention, we are excited to collaborate with Care Resource in bringing the city-wide Block Party to Miami. Through this collaboration we prayerfully hope to make a huge impact. This will also be a time for families to come out, hear some music, eat some food and be on the pathway to better health. Indeed, it is a community fair like no other, said Reverend Darryl K. Baxter of Churches United.

United for Care most important purpose is to bring together community resources and those in need to choose healthy decisions and lifestyles and also to provide assistance for community members that may be underserved. The participants will be encouraged to visit every station at the fair so they can complete their “health passport,” which they obtain at registration. In addition, certified application counselors will be available to assist those in learning about the Affordable Care Act (ACA), as open enrollment begins November 1, 2016 and ends on January 31, 2017.

This health event will highlight a variety of activities for families and community:

  • Free wellness screenings;
  • Healthcare navigation;
  • HIV/STI screenings;
  • Social work and behavioral health services;
  • Spiritual counseling;
  • Legal advice;
  • DJ entertainment and performances by local church singers and choirs;
  • Free food.

United for Care (U4C) is a great opportunity for residents of Miami-Dade to get tested for HIV and other STI, and learn about services and programs that are free or affordable in their area. People who are uninsured and need medical care will be able to make a doctor’s appointment, and take advantage of a free initial visit with basic labs, said Ron Ledain, Director of Health Promotion and Linkage Services at Care Resource.
