The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM), Artistic Director, Eriberto Jimenez, is presenting its annual Grand Gala Performance Giselle Act II, the most lyrical and breathtaking jewel of the famous 19th Century Romantic Ballets, featuring Cuban Prima Ballerina Lorena Feijoo next to Principal Dancers Arionel Vargas and Marize Fumero, three generations of Cuban dancers, beautiful costumes & scenery and full corps de ballet, in collaboration with Miami Arts Charter School under Valerie Barreiro and Diana Ford.
The performance will also include two new original choreographies by artistic director Eriberto Jimenez; “Yerma” based on the play by renowned Spaniard author Federico Garcia Lorca, that tells the story of a childless woman living in rural Spain, her desperate desire for motherhood becomes an obsession that eventually drives her to commit a horrific crime, performed to life music by Guitarists Alberto Puerto and Ivet Riscart, and “Bolero Suite” remembering the golden age of this musical genre, known for its lyrical allusions of life, love, tragedy and passion.
The Cuban Classical ballet of Miami wants to recognize the work and artistic achievements of dance teachers and directors in our city, this year during the annual gala performance, an award will be presented to Sonia Diaz and Martha del Pino, two pioneers of dance in Miami, founders of Ballet Concerto School and Company in 1961, a company that brought to Miami stages figures such as Nureyev, Makarova, Carla Fracci, Cynthia Gregory and Fernando Bujones, in addition to forming dancers who were part of companies such as the American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Miami City Ballet.
The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami was founded in 2006 by late Pedro Pablo Pena, the company is solely dedicated to the classical ballet repertory, exemplified by the legendary world renowned Cuban ballet tradition, and unique to South Florida.
