Miami-Dade County hosted the first Opioid Addiction Task Force meeting
Yesterday, January 30, 2017, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle, Board of County Commissioners Chairman Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., the Florida Department of Children and Families, and the Florida Department of Health hosted the first meeting of the Miami-Dade County Opioid Addiction Task Force.
The Opioid Task Force aims to develop an effective action plan that will reduce the opioid and heroin addiction and that will prevent overdose deaths. The plan also tries to combat the epidemic by engaging the community, identifying best practices in discouraging new users, and addressing holistic and comprehensive care to those that already struggle with opioid abuse.
The task force will study healthcare solutions, the role of the justice system in opioid prevention, and will also raise awareness.
