Free tax help through VITA program

Free tax prep assistance available at local community centers

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is offering free tax preparation assistance at its Community Resource Centers throughout the County. Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, free tax help is available to people who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. CAHSD staffs IRS-certified volunteers at select locations to provide basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

In 2016, CAHSD helped over 800 individuals and families claim over $830,000 in tax refunds and credits. This year, assistance will be available at the following centers: Accion, Coconut Grove, Culmer, Hialeah, Miami Gardens, Naranja and Perrine.
