Eliminating malnutrition within communities in need

A special partnership that aims to eliminate the malnutrition and improve the overall quality of life

Care Resource and the Food-for-Life Network, Inc. will collaborate with the 9 Mile Music Festival with the hope that they will eliminate malnutrition and improve upon the health and overall quality of life of South Florida’s communities in need over the holidays.

Attendees at the 9 Mile Music Festival must donate four non-perishable food items such as beans, grits, pastas or cans of vegetables to the Food For Life Network’s food bank located on the second floor of Care Resource’s midtown Miami office (3510 Biscayne Boulevard). Then the attendee will receive a token showing that the donation was made, to show at the entrance of the concert together with the ticket.

Right now, the Food-for-Life Network, Inc. serves approximately 700 clients in Miami-Dade County. We see between 30-99 clients a day. Grocery packages are provided free of charge for our clients. Each one contains seven days’ worth of food. Home delivered meals and groceries are available for those who qualify. Clients with dependent children are provided additional food items to allow them to feed their dependent children, ensuring adequate food for the HIV infected parent, said Valjean Brookins, Food Services Supervisor with the Food for Life Network.

Julian Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Grammy award nominated, roots-reggae musician, singer-songwriter and producer will make the first donation today, Friday, December 16, where he will be joined by Richard Booker, Bob Marley’s Brother and Director of Nine Mile Festival.

Together we can make a difference for those who are less fortunate. United we stand, divided we fall, said Marley.

The 9 Mile Music Festival began in 1993 as a musical testament by Cedella Marley Booker to the life and philosophy of her son, world-renowned artist Bob Marley. The festival will take place at the Historic Virginia Key Beach, on March 11, 2017. The event will feature performances by reggae icons Julian Marley, Capleton, Sizzla and more.

The Food For Life Network, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and subsidiary of Care Resource. It provides and delivers groceries, meals and nutritional education to eliminate malnutrition and starvation in men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Miami Dade County and those in need of emergency food assistance in the community.
