On Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department’s Natural Areas Management (NAM) Division is hosting a “Natural Areas Community Clean Up Days” event. Lend a hand in helping to improve one our community’s most precious nature preserves – Kendall Indian Hammocks Park, 11395 SW 79 St., Miami.
The cleanup will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon; check-in opens at 8 a.m. The group will meet at the park’s trail head. Activities will include removal of air potato bulbils and tubers and other invasive exotic plants from the main hammock forest.
What to Wear and Bring:
- a long-sleeved shirt
- closed-toe shoes
- work gloves
- bring along drinking water
Individuals, community/civic groups, schools and corporate entities who are interested in volunteering their time are welcome. This is the perfect opportunity for high school students and other individuals looking to fulfill community service requirements. Children age 7-12 may participate but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What does Miami-Dade Parks’ NAM Division do?
It is responsible for restoring and managing 98 nature preserves totaling more than 26,000 acres of land. The team provides natural resources management services as well as scientific and environmental expertise to various county, state and federal agencies.
