Stargazing party at Fruit & Spice Park

An amazing guided stargazing opportunity thanks to The Southern Cross Astronomical Society

If you are an astronomy lover or you just love to watch the stars, then you are invited to the Stargazing Party on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 7:00p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Preston B. Bird⁄Mary Heinlein Fruit & Spice Park.

This time, the Fruit & Spice Park collaborated with The Southern Cross Astronomical Society (SCAS) which will provide guided stargazing opportunities for you via SCAS high-tech telescopes. You'll be able to take a look for free at Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, and Moon. Bring a blanket, explore the night sky and the “Hunter’s Moon”, enjoy the bonfire, music and storytelling.

If you're wondering why people call it the "Hunter's Moon", it's because the light it provides makes it easier to hunt and kill prey. The Hunter's Moon rises in such a way that there's almost no significant dark time between sunset and moonrise. This way, people had more time to farm and hunt.

If you haven't visited the Fruit & Spice Park yet, now is the right time to do it because it is the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the United States. The park grows more than 500 varieties of subtropical fruits, herbs, spices, vegetables and nuts from around the world on 39 lush acres in the agricultural Redland and it also includes a walkable garden pond with Japanese koi fish, water lilies and a fountain. On this special night, there will be free moonlight tram tours of the park.

Free admission. For more information about this event, visit the Fruit & Spice Park web page, or call 305-247-5727.
