If you are a tourist in Miami or a local and you didn’t visit the Miami museums, you have to know that some of them offer free entrance. Miami is a well-known city for its museums because it offers a large variety of points of interest. If you are an art lover, passionate about history or science, take a look at this list and choose which one you’ll visit without getting any money out of your pocket.
Free entrance on specific days
Lowe Art Museum
Free entrance: Donation Day, the first Tuesday of each month; always free for children under 12 years old
Considered Miami’s oldest art museum, here you can see a beautiful collection of Greek, Egyptian and Roman antiquities, as well as an amazing variety of permanent works of art and temporary exhibits.
Miami Science Museum
Free entrance: The observatory is free the first Friday of each month 8:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
At this museum you can see live science demonstrations and theater shows, rare and exotic birds at the wildlife center and you can experience the Miami Planetarium, which is the home to the Weintraub Observatory’s two powerful telescopes.
Gold Coast Railroad Museum
Free entrance: The first Saturday of each month except in March
If you are passionate about trains, then this is the right museum for you. Here you can see rare pieces like “Ferdinand Magellan”, the Florida East Coast Railway locomotive #153 and the private railroad car built for President Franklin Roosevelt.
History Miami Museum
Free entrance: The second Saturday of each month; always free for children under 6 years old and veterans between Memorial Day and Labor Day
Preserving Miami’s impressive history, the History Miami Museum organizes on every Saturday of each month the Family Fun Days where you have the great opportunity to learn something new.
Miami Children’s Museum
Free entrance: The third Friday of each month from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Bring your kids and let them learn through play and experience the children size bank, supermarket, health and wellness center, veterinary clinic, and television studio. Also they can have a lot of fun by creating art and music, board a life-size cruise ship and climb through a two-story sandcastle.
Wolfsonian-FIU Art Museum
Free entrance: Every Friday after 6:00 p.m.; always free for children under 6 years old
Paintings, ceramics, posters, books, furniture and architectural creations from the modern era, all of them gathered in a 1926 Mediterranean revival-style warehouse.
